2018 Book review #2: The Rogue queen (#3) by Emily R. King:

35051065

Book: The rogue queen

Author: Emily R. King

Series: The hundredth queen #3

Date read: February 3, 2018

Rating: 3.5/5 stars

Pages: 298

Publication date: February 13, 2018

Summary from Goodreads:

“Despite the odds, Kalinda has survived it all: Marriage to a tyrant. Tournaments to the death. The forbidden power to rule fire. The icy touch of a demon.

That same demon now disguises itself as Rajah Tarek, Kalinda’s late husband and a man who has never stopped haunting her. Upon taking control of the palace and the army, the demon brands Kalinda and her companions as traitors to the empire. They flee across the sea, seeking haven in the Southern Isles.

In Lestari, Kalinda’s powers are not condemned, as they are in her land. Now free to use them to protect those she loves, Kalinda soon realizes that the demon has tainted her with a cold poison, rendering her fire uncontrollable. But the lack of control may be just what she needs to send the demon back to the darkest depths of the Void.

To take back the empire, Kalinda will ally with those she distrusts—and risk losing those most loyal to her—to defeat the demon and bring peace to a divided nation.”

I received this from Netgalley and the publisher for an honest review.

I definitely liked this one better than the first two. I liked most of the characters and it was pretty action-packed as well. While the other two books started just a little slow for me this one had action right at the beginning and throughout the entire book. There is also a love triangle in this one as well though the book seems to focus less on the romance this time. I really loved learning about the magic and different cities as well. There were a few twists and turns though there were also some scenes that were predictable. I  was pretty surprised by how the story ended though and am interested in seeing what happens in the fourth book when it comes out.

Overall this is one that I would recommend and I am interested in seeing how the story ends in the next book.

It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is hosted by Kathryn at the bookdate. This is where you can talk about what you have read, what you are currently reading, and what you are about to read.

This past week has been pretty busy so far as I have had a lot of reading to for classes and I’ve also started my research for my papers though I may still have to go to the library again to get some more sources. This past weekend was really busy as well. I spent the afternoon on Saturday doing some cleaning since it was raining and i was also able to get a little bit of hw done as well. I did manage to finish two books though I had to read one for a paper that I have in one of my classes. The weather this week has been really warm. We had 77 degree weather on Friday though it was really windy. It also looks like it is going to be pretty rainy this week but really warm.

What I read last week:

Quiet: The power of introverts in a world that can’t stop talking by Susan Cain:

8520610

I had to read this one for a paper where I had to turn off my social media while I read it. I wasn’t sure if i would enjoy this one but I really learned a lot about being introverted and while I knew some things there were still some ideas about being introverted that I didn’t know about as well. This is one that I would highly recommend (5 stars).

Frostblood (#1) by Elly Blake:

30246667

This one was also really good and I enjoyed it a lot more than i thought I would. This is one that I would definitely recommend as well (4.5/5 stars).

Hello,

This week has been pretty busy lately as I have had a lot of reading for my classes and I’ve started to work on my papers that I have to do as well. The weather here has been pretty warm though it has rained for most of the week and the entire weekend.  This next week looks pretty busy as well though  I am meeting with some friends for lunch and I am expecting a package for Valentine’s day as well.

Top Ten Tuesday #1: 10 books that have been on my shelf the longest: February 6, 2018:

ttt-big2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that was created by The broke and the bookish.

It has now been moved to that artsy reader girl,

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is about books that have been on your shelf the longest. Last year I deleted a ton of books that I had on my shelf for a long time though there are still some that I am hoping to get to maybe this year hopefully.

  1. The Reece Malcolm list by Amy Spalding:

13517338

This was one of the first ones that I added to my shelf and has been there ever since. Every time I think about adding it to my library list it is usually checked out so it gets added to the next month. I’m hoping to read it over the summer this year though.

2. Wings of the wicked (#2) by Courtney Allison Moulton:

8501291

This is another one that keeps getting added to my list but then it is usually already checked out by the time that I start to add it to my shelf. I’m hoping to get to it this year at some point. Its a series that I definitely want to continue to read. though.

3. A brief chapter in my impossible life by Dana Reinhardt:

110733

This is another one that I added a long time ago but haven’t gotten to yet.

4.  The Darlings are forever (#1) by Melissa Kantor:

8428049

This is another one that I am hoping to read this year but it may be a while before I can get to it

5. Don’t stop now by Julie Halpern:

9578331

This was another contemporary romance novel that  I added but haven’t gotten to yet.

6. The sweet life of Stella Madison by

5835027

This is another contemporary that I added and haven’t read.

7. The Fall by Bethany Griffin:

18241263

This was one of the first horror novels that I added on my shelf and it sounds pretty good. I am hoping to get to it at some point this year.

8. Blackout (#1) by Robison Wells:

17332588

I’ve tried to get to this one a few times but it was always one of those books that I got to last and by the time that I got to it I had to take it back to the library. It sounds interesting so i am hoping to finish it some day.

9. Tiger’s voyage (#3) by Colleen Houck:

7849341

This is another one that i have been trying to read for over a year. I’m only about 60 pages in but I am hoping to get back to it eventually.

10. A storm of swords (#3) by George. R.R. Martin:

6307964

This is another one that i started late last year and have made only a little progress with. This year I am determined to finish this one even though it is one of the longest ones on my shelf.

So here is my list of books that have been on my shelf the longest.

Are there any books that you have read on this list? Are there any books that I should move to my TBR list?

2018 Book Review #1: The Last girl on Earth by Alexandra Blogier:

35553569

Book: The last girl on Earth

Author: Alexandra Blogier

Pages: N/A

Date Published: January 23, 2018

Date read: 1/30/18

Rating: 4 stars

Format: ebook

I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

Summary from Goodreads:

Raised among them.>

Li has a father and a sister who love her. A best friend, Mirabae, to share things with. She goes to school and hangs out at the beach and carefully follows the rules. She has to. Everyone she knows–her family, her teachers, her friends–is an alien. And she is the only human left on Earth.

A secret that could end her life.

The Abdoloreans hijacked the planet sixteen years ago, destroying all human life. Li’s human-sympathizer father took her in as a baby and has trained her to pass as one of them. The Abdoloreans appear human. But they don’t think with human minds or feel with human hearts. And they have special abilities no human could ever have.

Fit in or die.

When Li meets Ryn, she’s swept up in a relationship that could have disastrous consequences. How far will Li go to stay alive? Will she save herself–and in turn, the human race–or will she be the final witness to humanity’s destruction?

I was definitely surprised by how much i had enjoyed this one. I honestly wasn’t sure about this book at first but once I got into it, I really enjoyed it. There were some things in the story that I was surprised by and felt that they had come in without an explanation and there could also been some things that could have been explained more than they were. I did really like the characters, though there does seem to be instalove between the characters though. I really liked that the story kept me interested from the first page and for most of the book. I do hope there is a second book though as there are still some things that I am curious about. It was definitely shorter than I thought it would be even though it could be a little longer than it was but I liked that it was a fast read.

Final conclusion: Overall I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would even though there were some things that could have been explained more than they were and there was some instalove but I thought the story was very interesting and a fast read. I would recommend this one.

January Wrap-up/ February TBR:

Hello,

So this month was pretty productive in reading even though i started school again and have a ton of reading in my classes. I’m probably going to have to slow down though as I have a paper due in March and I have a few others that are coming up behind it as well. I also have to read a book for my communications class where i have to turn off all of my social media while I read this book (this is the one that is due in March). I am hoping to finish a few books in February as they are ones that I have already made some progress with this month but might not be able to finish them before the end of the month. I did get some new books from the library that i am really excited to read though and I am planning some reviews in February as well. I don’t know how often i will be able to post yet though since the semester is getting busier but I am hoping to squeeze in a few hopefully.

Total # of books read: 13

January Wrap-up:

So instead of posting the pictures like i usually do I decided to just post the link for these and then when I do my TBR I will post the pictures then.

  1. Nevernight (#1) by Jay Kristoff (3 stars) – This one was a lot darker than I thought it would be so it took me a little longer than I thought it would but I did like some of the fantasy in the story. I do still plan to read the second book at some point though.
  2. The winter people by Jennifer McMahon (4.5/5 stars) – I honestly thought that
  3. One of us is lying by Karen M. McManus (4.5 stars) – I picked this one up on a whim and really enjoyed it. There were a couple of characters that I didn’t really like but I thought it was interesting,
  4. Vampire kisses (#1) by Ellen Schreiber (3 stars) – I only picked this one up because I had the third book in this series for a challenge on Goodreads that I am hoping to finish but it was kind of cheesy compared to others. It was a fast read though and I am glad that I picked it up.
  5. Kissing coffins (#2)  by Ellen Schreiber (3 stars) – This one was about the same as the first one but it was a fast read and I could fit it in some other challenges that i have on Goodreads.
  6. Vampireville (#3)  by Ellen Schreiber (3 stars) – I had this one for a challenge that I have been working on since 2015 and am hoping to finish this year since i only have a few books left to read and it was alright.
  7. Deja dead (#1)  by Kathy Reichs (4 stars) – This was another one that I had for a challenge although I was a big fan of the show Bones and picked it up because of it. It was okay though I will continue the series to see if it get better.
  8. We are all made of molecules  by Susin Nielsen (3.5/5 stars) – This one was okay. There were a few characters that I didn’t like but I thought the story was interesting.
  9. Harry potter and the order of the phoenix (#5)  by J.K. Rowling (reread – 5 stars) -This is one of my favorite series though this one did take me a little longer to read than usual. This is a series that I would highly recommend.
  10. When Dimple met Rishi  by Sandhya Menon (4.5/5 stars) – This one was a lot better than I thought it would be although I did think that it started off pretty quickly but I loved the characters.
  11. A monster calls by Patrick Ness (3.5/5 stars) – This was a sad book and fast read but I thought it was ok.
  12. To kill a mockingbird  by Harper Lee (4.5/5 stars) – This was one of my favorite books that I read when I was in high school so I thought I would reread it and it was still really good.
  13. The last girl on Earth by Alexandra Blogier (4 stars) – This one was surprisingly better than I thought it would be and pretty fast paced. There should be a review up by the end of the weekend hopefully.

It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is hosted by Kathryn at the bookdate. This is where you can talk about what you have read, what you are currently reading, and what you are about to read.

Hello,

It’s been a while since I have done one of these so I decided to do an update for this week. Things have been going pretty good although I have been really busy with school and hw lately. Instead of having projects to complete this semester I now have a ton of reading to do and a few papers as well. We had a couple of snow days at the beginning of the beginning of the semester but now the weather has pretty much returned back to normal. This week doesn’t look as busy though I do have a lot of reading for my classes this week.

I also wanted to let you guys know that starting tomorrow i won’t be on social media as i have to read a book and turn off my social media until I finish it so I won’t be posting any updates unless I finish a book, which I’ll post here since I won’t be on Goodreads. I should be back in about 2-3 weeks though.

What I read last week:

For this week I will just add the books that I read for the week and the ones that I missed at the beginning of the month I will add in my wrap-up post.

Harry potter and the order of the phoenix (#5)  by J.K. Rowling:

2

This is one of my favorite series although this particular book was my least favorite in the series. I would still highly recommend it and can’t wait to reread the sixth book.

When dimple met Rishi by Sandhya Menon:

28458598

I picked this one up on a whim on my Overdrive account and was definitely surprised by how much I enjoyed reading it. It was a little bit more fast paced at first but once i got into the story I thought it flowed really well and I loved all of the characters. I definitely can’t wait to read more by this author (4.5 stars)

A monster calls by Patrick Ness:

8621462

I literally read this in about a couple of hours and thought it was ok, though it was a really sad book. I did think that the ending kind of ended abruptly though. I was glad I read it and I would recommend it (3 stars)..

To kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee:

2657

I read this one when I was in high school and has recently read Go set a watchman so I decided to go ahead and reread it. It was a pretty good classic and one that I would recommend (4.5/5 stars).

Currently reading:

35553569

I started this one just a couple of days ago and I am already almost halfway. I’ve had to slow down though as I have had a lot of reading in my classes to do but I am hoping to finish it this week. A review should be up for this one once I finish it.

24909346

I’ve been trying to read this one for a while now and finally made some progress with with it even though I only got up to 30%. Its pretty good so far though it may be a while before I get back to it.

35051065

This is one that i am slowly reading but I have made some progress with it. It be a while though before I finish it.

I am also planning on having my Wrap-up post up either late tonight or early tomorrow morning before I go on my social media hiatus.
