It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is hosted by Kathryn at the bookdate. This is where you can talk what you have read, what you are currently reading, and what you are about to read.

Happy New Years everyone,

I hope the year goes well and that you are able to find some great reads this year!

This past week has been pretty quiet lately as I got a cold on Sunday afternoon so I have been resting for the past couple of days. I’ve also been busy this week trying to finish up some books that I have been reading and making some blog posts this week as well. This week I am over at my grandparents house this week and have mostly just been hanging out. I did see Wonder last week .and loved it. I also got a haircut since my hair was getting longer and ended up cutting four inches off which feels really good. The arctic weather has settled here so it has been in the 20s the last few nights and is expected to be very cold the rest of the week so I’ve just been staying inside. This week I was supposed to have a doctor’s appointment but I got sick Sunday so I may have to change it later in the week but I am planning to go back to my dad’s house on Wednesday and staying with them until school starts.

What I read last week:

Nyxia (#1)  by Scott Reintgen:

27426044

I received this one from Netgalley and was definitely surprised by how much I enjoyed it. There was a lot of action in the story and just a little bit of a mystery in it as well. This is a Sci-Fi that I would definitely recommend (4.5/5 stars).

The Body Finder (#1) by Kimberly Derting:

6261522

I was definitely surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it at first but once I sat down and read it the story really picked up. It was definitely a fast read for me and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series (5 stars).

The midnight star (#3) by Marie Lu:

28588345

This one definitely surprised me as well. There was a lot of action and the characters were pretty good too. This one didn’t take me as long to read as the second book did and the ending was definitely surprising (5 stars).

Currently reading:

26114463

This one is fast paced but I am not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. I am hoping to finish it by tomorrow hopefully.

2657

I read this one back in high school and I wanted to read more classics last year and while i haven’t reached that goal yet this one is pretty good even though I have only read a few pages so far. I am hoping to finish it by the end of the week hopefully.

29385546

This is one of my most anticipated books of the year and while I have only made a little bit of progress with it. I am hoping to finish it this week.

Up Next:

2017 Wrap-Up and Goals for 2018:

Hello,

I know that i already did my monthly update but I decided to try a yearly update where i talk about what my favorite book was, what my least favorite book was, what my shortest book was, and what my longest book was. I will also talk about what my new favorite author was and a few books that i am looking forward to next year. I will also talk about some reading and blogging goals that i have for 2018.

This list will be based on what My Year in Books was according to Goodreads.

My favorite book of 2017:

A court of mist and fury (#2) by Sarah J. Maas:

17927395

This one is definitely my favorite book of 2017. I wasn’t sure about this series at first and while I thought the first one was pretty good, this one was definitely a lot better. There was definitely a lot more action and the characters really changed in this novel as well. This is a series I would highly recommend.

My least favorite book of 2017:

Inescapable (#1)  by Amy A. Bartol

12925063

Inescapable was probably my lowest rating of the entire year. It sounded really good but I couldn’t connect with the characters in this story.

My shortest book of the year:

Never, Never (#1)  by Colleen Hoover:

24378015

This was another book that i thought I would enjoy but ended up not liking. It’s also a fast read though and helped with some challenges on Goodreads as well.

My longest book that I read:

Noblesse Season 1, Set by Son Jae Ho:

13556014

This one actually surprised me by being the longest book on my shelf and it was alright. I may watch the anime at some point this year to see if I like the show as well.

New Favorite authors:

The body finder (#1) by Kimberly Derting:

6261522

I honestly wasn’t sure about this at first but once I started reading it I know that i had to know what happened at the end of the story. I would definitely recommend this book and can’t wait to continue the series later this year.

Steelheart (#1) by Brandon Sanderson:

17182126

This did take me a while to read but once i got into it the story was really good. I am looking forward to continuing this series sometime this year and read more by this author as well.

Most anticipated books for 2018 January-March:

34371260 35004343 23367265 34499216

  1. Poison’s cage (#2)  by Breeana Shields: (January 16th)
  2. The girl in the tower (#2)  by Katherine Arden (January 25th)
  3.  Immortal Reign (#6)  by Morgan Rhodes (February 6th)
  4. Daughter of the siren queen (#2) by Tricia Levenseller (February 27th)

24909347 34992929 HeroAtTheFall_JK.indd 35386010

5. Obsidio (. I’3) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff (March 13th)

6. Restore me (#4) by Tahereh Mafi (March 6th)

7.Hero at the fall (#3) by Alwyn Hamilton (March 6th)

8. Lost Crow conspiracy (#2) by Rosalyn Eves (March 27th)

Reading Goals that i have for 2018:

  1. One goal that i have this year is to make some progress with the Pretty little liars series. I haven’t really made a lot of progress with this one and i am on #8 so I want to read as many as I can this year and hopefully finish the series if I can.
  2. I also want to make some progress with the Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs. i just got the first book in December and haven’t read it yet so I am hoping to read some of the series this year as well.
  3. I also want to keep track of the Netgalley books that i request. I usually request four or five at a time sometimes, so this year I want to make sure that I read all of my Netgalley books and write reviews for them before I request more.
  4. I am still going to do a Bucket list of books this year but instead of doing 100 books I am bringing the number down to 75 books to see if I can make more progress with it.

Blogging goals:

  1. This year I am hoping to have a few more discussion posts but I don’t have a set schedule yet. I am waiting to see how the first couple of weeks of school goes before I get into a set schedule but I will try to have a few more posts up when i can.
  2. I also want to comment more and visit other blogs and try to comment as well.
  3. I also want to post more book reviews than I did in 2017 and improve my writing skills as well.
  4. I also want to make my own header picture but i haven’t really figured out what I want to do yet so it may be later in the year before I make anymore changes but I am hoping to keep the theme that I have right now.

So this was what my year in Reading Looked like and my goals that I have for 2018.

Happy New Year!

Marybeth

December Wrap-Up/ January TBR:

Hello,

Happy New years everyone!

This month has been a really good month for reading. I was able to complete a couple of series That I have been working on and made some progress on some other series while starting new ones as well. My January TBR list will be relatively small as I go back to school again and am not sure how much reading I will be able to do this semester but I am hoping to read just a little more than I did in the fall.

This past week has been pretty busy as I went to my grandparents for Christmas Break. On Tuesday we had a Christmas party with family and on Wednesday my grandparents had an appointment in town so I went with them to get my hair trimmed for the new semester and then we went to See Wonder which was great. On Thursday my grandparents had another appointment but I stayed home and finished a book that i had been reading. This weekend I ended up getting a cold so today i am just doing updates on my computer and am hoping to finish Nevernight and maybe a couple of other books as well.

Books that I read in 2017 that were rated 3 stars or below:

Hello,

Since I did a post of books that I really enjoyed in 2017 I figured that I would also do a post about books that didn’t hold my interest as much as I thought they would.

  1. The crown (#5)  by Kiera Cass:

I really wanted to enjoy this book but it took me a lot longer than I thought it would and while i did rate it pretty high, I Just didn’t enjoy it as much as I did the other books in the series. I would still recommend it though if you are a fan of this series.

2. Planet Urth (#1) by Jennifer Martucci & Christopher Martucci:

This one was for free on Amazon at one point so I thought I would try it but it wasn’t quite as good as I thought it would be.

3. Fallen (#1) by Lauren Kate:

I first read this one when I was still in high school and while I thought it was ok, I could never get through more than a couple of chapters of the second book so i thought i would reread this one this year but it did take me a lot longer than I thought it would to finish this one. I also ended up taking the series off my shelf so I don’t know if I will ever get to it or not.

4. The Edge of everything (#1) by Jeff Giles:

i received this one from Netgalley for review and while it was good and I loved the characters I wasn’t too fond of the romance but there was a lot of action in the story. I may still pick up the second one when it comes out though.

5. Privilege (#1) by Kate Brian:

I thought this one would be good but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought it would. It was a fast read though.

6. Firstlife (#1) by Gena Showalter:

I listened to this one as an audio book and I didn’t really enjoy it as much. I may still see if I can get a physical copy to see if I like it better.

7. Fury of the seventh son (#13) by Joseph Delaney:

I really enjoyed the first 9 books in this series but after that it kind of went downhill after even though I really wanted to enjoy it. I am glad that I finished this series though.

8. Ashes to ashes (#3) by Jenna Han  & Siobhan Vivian:

I really wanted to enjoy this trilogy but this book was definitely a lot darker than I thought it would be. I am glad that  I read it though as it helped with a lot of challenges on Goodreads that I am working on.

9. Dreams of Gods & Monsters (#3) by Laini Taylor:

This was another one that I wanted to enjoy but ended up not really liking it. I loved the first books in this trilogy and thought they were really good but I thought this one was too long and kind of dragged for me in some parts. It was a good way to end the trilogy though.

10. The girl from the well (#1) by Rin Chupeco:

This was an interesting story and while I did like it, the writing style got me in this one. It also took me a really long time to finish.

11. The evaporation of Sofi Snow (#1) by Mary Weber:

This was another that could have been really good but I had a hard time liking it. I may still read the second one to see if it gets better.

12. Inescapable (#1) by Amy A. Bartol:

I read Under the stars (#1) last year so I’d thought I would try another book by this author. I really didn’t enjoy this as much but I did help with a few challenges on Goodreads though.

So this is my list of books that I didn’t like or were just meh. Since I am still reading a lot of books there may be a few that could get added to this list.

It’s Monday! What are You Reading? Monday, December 25, 2017:

it2527s2bmonday25212bwhat2bare2byou2breading

It”s Monday What are you reading? is hosted by Kathryn at the Bookdate. This is where you can talk about what you have read, what you are currently reading, and what you are about to read.

Merry Christmas!

I can’t believe that it is Christmas day and this is our last week in December before the new year. So far things are going well as I have mostly just been sitting on the couch reading and watching Netflix. This year my family and I decided to have enchiladas for dinner and then I will head over to my grandparent’s house on Tuesday to have Christmas with them as well. The weather was pretty warm last week but now it is getting much colder which is good.

You may have noticed that I have changed my blog around again. One of my goals for 2018 is to learn some design so I can make my own header although I am not sure when that will happen yet. I have some ideas but I may need some more time to think them through before I decide. I will also have some new posts up this week reflecting back on 2017 and some goals for 2018 as well.

Reading goal as of December 25: 126/165 books. (I am not sure if i am going to get to my goal this year but i still have about 16 more books to read so I am hoping to make a lot of progress with it hopefully).

What I read last week:

Gone girl by Gillian Flynn:

19288043

This book took me a while to get through as the beginning was slow but it picked up after about halfway though. I may try another book by this author next year but i am not sure when (3 stars).

This is where it ends by Marieke NijKamp:

25823344

I picked this one up on a whim on my Overdrive account and it was ok although it was a very fast read (3.5/5 stars).

La Belle Sauvage (#1) by Philip Pullman:

34128219

This book took me a lot longer than I thought it would to finish although I did start it when I was still in school so that might be why it took me a long time to finish it than usual. It was still still good though and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series (5 stars).

Harry potter and the goblet of fire (#4) by J.K. Rowling:

6

I have lost track of how many times i have reread this series. This is definitely one of my favorite books and I can’t wait to read the next one in this series. I would highly recommend this series (5 stars)!

Tridea’s Children (#1) by Kevin Peake:

34834931

I received this one from Netgalley for review and it was ok.  I should have a review up for this one this week hopefully (3 stars).

The Scorpio races by Maggie Stiefvater:

10626594

This one was a fast read for me as well. I loved that all of the chapters were short and there was some action in it as well. I would highly recommend this one as well.

Counting by 7s by Holly Goldberg Sloan:

15937108

I had this one as an audio book and it was pretty good (4 stars).

Currently reading:

The body finder (#1) by Kimberly Derting:

6261522

I just started this one this afternoon and it is pretty good so far. I am hoping to finish it either tonight or tomorrow hopefully.

I have read a few chapters of this one so far and I am hoping to finish it in the next couple of days or so.

Nyxia (#1) by Scott Reintgen:

This is another one that i have only read a few pages of so far but it seems interesting.

The winter people by Jennifer McMahon:

This is another book that I picked up on my Overdrive account on a whim and it seems interesting so far. I am hoping to finish it sometime this week hopefully.
